[hebrew word] bəli-ya'al բառն է, որ կազմուած է bəli «ոչ, ան-» և ya'al «օ-գուտ» բառերից. ուստի բուն նշանակում է «անպէտք, անօգուտ, անպիտան», բայց լե-տոյ նաև «չար, վատ, ապականօղ» և յատ-կացուեց սատանային. «չար» իմաստով գոր-ծածուած է Դատ. ի. 13, ուր Ս. Գրքի աշխար-հաբար թարգմանութեան մէջ իրօք գտնում ենք «չար զաւակ մարդիկը», իսկ Բ. կոր. զ. 15 առնուած է «սատանայ» իմաստով։ Ս. Գրքի յունարէն թարգմանութեան մէջ տառա-դարձուած է բառս βeλίαλ և βελίαρ (այլուս կայ և βελίας. տե՛ս Sorhocles 305 ա), Վուլ-ռատայի մէջ belial, ասոր. [syriac word] beliar, որից կամ յունարէնի երկրորդ ձևից էլ տա-ռադարձուած է հայերէնը։
• Ուղիղ մեկնեցին ՀՀԲ, Աւետիքեան, Մե-կըն. թղ. Պօղ. բ. 134 և ՆՀԲ։-Հներն էլ ծանօթ էին բառիս մեկնութեան. հմմտ. Ոսկ. բ. կոր. «Բելիար ի հեբրայեցւոյ (sic). սրա համար է որ Հին բռ. գրում է «բելիար. ապստամև»։

• ՆՀԲ լծ. հյ. բաժ և լտ. vectigal, որ է «տուրք»։ Ադոնց, Aрм. Юстин 484 պրս. [arabic word] ba-kār āmadan «գործի գալ»։ Այս ստուգաբանութիւնը, որի վրայ ծանրանում է նաև Մանանդեան՝ անդ, բոլորովին զուրկ է արժէքից (Մա-նանդեան, Տեղեկ. ինստ. 2, 37 երկու տարբեր բառեր է համարում փալթար, պեկար «հողային հարկ» <պրս. pāikar և բեկար «պարտադիր ձրի աշխատանք» <պրս. bekār) և յառաջացած է նոր պրս. bekar հնչման ազդեցութիւնից։
• Սա մի՛ բառ չէ, այլ kār [arabic word] «գործ» բառի տրականը կամ նախդրիւ հայցա-կանը. ba նախդիրը ծագում է հպրս. patiy, զնդ. paiti, պհլ. pat, պաղենդ. pa ձևից և եթէ հայերէնի մէջ գոյու-թիւն անեցած լինէր, առնտազն պա ձևը պիտի ունենար, որով սպասելի էր *պակար և ո՛չ բեկար (հմմտ. Horn § 144),-Տե՛ս նաև փաքար։
• ԳՒՌ.-Տփ. բէգար «տուգանք», Երև. բէ-գար «ձրի պարտադիր աշխատանք»։
