• = Յն. αϰίουρος «սկիւռ» բառից փոխա-ռեալ. ծագում է σxιά «շուք» և ούοα «պոչ» բառերից. բուն նշանակում է «պոչով իր վը, րայ շուաք անող» (այս անասունը ընդհան-րապէս իր թաւ ու գեղեցիկ պոչր բարձրաց-նում է գլխից վերև և տակին նստում). սրա համար հայերէն յարմարցուած է նաև հովա-նագի (տե՛ս Նորայր, Բառ. ֆր. 439ա), որ սակայն ընդունելութիւն չէ գտած։ Յոյնից են ծագում նաև լտ. sciurus, անգլ. squirrel, ֆրանս. écureuil հոմանիշները։ Հայր կարող է նաև լատինից կազմուած լինել։-Աճ.
