• = Յն, ϰανών (ϰανόνος) բառից, որ նշա-նակում է «եղէգի ցօղուն» և հետզհետէ նոյն նախնական իմաստից բխելով՝ «որևէ ուղիղ փայտ կամ ձող, փայտէ քանոն, ուդիղ գիծ, վանդակի ճաղ, սահմանագիծ, օրինակ, ձև, օրէնք (և յատկապէս եկեղեցական օ-րէնք), կանոն, ցուցակ»։ Յոյն բառը ծագում է ϰννα (< լտ. canna) «եղէգ» բառից, իսկ սա էլ ասորաբաբելական kanu ձևի մի-ջոցով սումեր-ակկադ. gin «եղէգ» բա-ռից (Boisacq, էջ 406)։ Փոխառութեամբ անցել է շատ լեզուների. ինչպէս՝ լտ. čanon, հպլ. kanonū, արաբ.
