Vesperbrot «իրիկնահաց, ընթրիք», փոխառութեամբ հունգ. vacsora «ընթրիք» (Walde, 827, Boisacq, 288, Trautmann, 348)։ Այս բառերին նախաձև են դրւում հնխ. vespero, veqero, առանզ սակայն ձայնական տարբերութիւնները լիո-վին պարզելու։ Հայերէնը, որ գալիս է հնագոյն *գեշեր ձևիզ, հայում է veqero նախաձևին. հմմտ. շուն, եշ. -թոխարերէնն ունի. wse ձևը, որի հետ նոյն է քուչ. yasl «գիշեր» (Pokorny, 1, 15 և 311, Kluge, 510, Ernout-Meillet, 1054)։ -Հիւբշ. 435։
• Հներից Վրդն. ծն. մեկնում է գէշ բա-ռով. «Յորժամ գոյն գէշ և թուխ ղգենուն օդ և երկիր, գիշեր կոչի»։ Յայսմ. մրտ. 17 գեշ+իր կամ «Երր. եւ զխաւարն կո-չեաց գիշեր, որ է գէշ իր կամ գէշ երր, այս է մութն ու խաւար» Տաթև. Յմ. կզ. «գիշերն գարշ իր կոչի»։ Նոյն, հարց. 196 գիշեր՝ զի գարշանայ երր, որ է օդ. [arabic word] bīǰāda, որ է «սաթ», նշանակում է նաև «գիշեր» (տե՛ս Будаговь. Cpaв, cлов. 1, 299)։ Այս գիշեր «սաթ» բառից է կազմուած Գիշերաձոր տև ղական յատուկ անունը (Օրբ. բ. 236, Հիւբշ. Die altarm.
