• = Այս գաղափարի համար հնդևրոպական լեզուները ներկայացնում են երեք տարբեր ռառ, որոնք են. 1) հնխ. dlkú-? որի ժա-հանգներն են յն. γλυϰός և լտ. dulcis «քաղցր». 2) հնխ. suād-, որից ունինք աանս svādú-, յն. ἠδός, դոր. ἀδός, լտ. suā-vis (<*suaduls), հսաքս. swōti, հբգ. suozi, անգսք. swέte, հհիւս. sotr, գոթ. suts, գերմ. súss, անգլ. sweet, հոլլ. zoeh «քաղցր». *) հնխ. saldu-, որից յառաջանում են միայն լիթ. saldus, լեթթ. salds, հսլ. šladuku, լեհ. slodki, ուկր. soiodkyǰ, ռուս. cладкiи «քաղցր»։ Սրանցից երեքն էլ մօ-տենում են մեր բառին, բայց ո՛չ մէկը չի ծածկում նրան, որ ըստ ձևի պահանջում է հնխ. sul-sk-։ Այս պատճառաւ էլ զանագան քննիչներ վերի ձևերը զանազան փոփռևու-թեանց ենթարկելով՝ ուզում են հասցնել նրան։ Այս փորձերի մասին տե՛ս տակը։ Երրորդ խմբի saldu-ձևը յառաջանում է հնխ. sāld-«աղ» բառից (ինչպէտ հյ. աղ և աղու), որ տալիս է հյ. աղ, աղտ, և հետ-ևաբար գործ չունի քաղցր բառի կազմու-թեան հետ։

[arabic word] xvālīdan, հպրս, uwar-du, պրս. xvāl «համեղ» բառի հետ։ Հիզբշ. 502 մերժում է թէ՛ զնդ. xvaгəz-ièta «համնեռառոյն» և թէ՛ պրտ. xval ձևերը։ Այստեղ յիշատակւում է նաև Bartholomae-ի մէկ անձնական կար-ծիքը, որով քաղցր. <հնխ. svlk'hu-, իբր երկրորդ ձև զնդ. *xvərəzu-<հնխ. svlg'hu-բառի դէմ։ Pedersen, Հայ. դր. լեզ. 151 քաղց բառի հետ։ Schet-telowitz BВ 28, 290 լտ. dulcis ձևի հետ՝ իբր հնխ. dulk'u-(յիշում է Walde 246, շատ կասկածելի է համարում Boisacq 151 ծան., չի ընդունում Po-korny 1, 816)։ Patrubány ՀԱ 1908, 154 յն. ϰαλέω, լտ. calo, հբգ. halōn, գերմ. -holén բառերի հետ՝ իբր «հրա-ւիրական»։ Petersson, Ar. u. Arm. Stud. 46 չի ընդունում Scheftelovitz-ի առաջարկած *dulk'u-նախաձևը որ պիտի տար հյ. *կղս-, և նրա փոխա-րէն դնում է *dlk-s-k'u-, որ հենց նա-խալեզւում շրջուած դարձած էր *kld-s-k'u-, որից էլ քաղցր։ oštir, Btrg, ala-rod. 45 բասկ. galtz «աղ» բառի հետ է կցում։
