• «ջայլամն» կը նշանակէ, թարգմանած է «մարախ»։ Չունիմ ես հոս դիւրութիւն քննելու թէ Ակիւղասայ օրինակագրին մէջ ի՛նչ ձայնով գրուած է այս. եթէ մարախ ձայնն ունի, կ'երևի թէ պէտք չէ զայն շփոթել սովորական մարախի հետ, որ «մորեխ կամ չէքիրկէ» կը նը-շանակէ, զի կրնայ այն յառաջ եկած ըլ-լալ սանս. մարաքա բառէն՝ որ «բազէ» կը նշանակէ։ Ըսել թէ «Ակիւղաս զնէեսա մարախ թարգմանեց» կը նշանակէ Ա-կիւղաս զնէեսայն բազէ հասկացաւ ու թարգմանեց։ Մարաքա ստուգաբանօրէն «սպանիչ, կորուսիչ» նշանակելովը, կրր-նայ յարմարիլ թէ՛ բազէի բնութեան և թէ ապականիչ մարախ միջատին»։ Մա-րախ բառի նշանակութեան վրայ ուրիշ-ներ էլ են կասկած յայտնած, յատկա-պէս տարօրինակ գտնելով որ Յովհ, Մկրտիչը մարախ միջատը կերած լի-նի. այս մասին տե՛ս Աւգերեան, Լիակ, վրք. սրբոց Ա. 33։ Բ. էքսէրճեան էլ ունի մի առանձին տետրակ «Մարա՞խ թէ մարուխ» վերնագրով (Պօլիս 1887), ուր ցոյց տալով թէ Յովհ. Մկըրտ-չի կերածը մարուխ էր, ասում է թէ Ա-ւետարանի մարախ բառը նշանակում է նաև «մատուտակ»։ Սրան է պատաս-խանում Տէրվ. Լեզու, 1887, էջ 62 և ցոյց է տալիս որ Աւետարանի մարախ բառը միայն «մորեխ» կարող է նշանակել, քանի որ դրուած է յոյն բնագրի ἀϰρίς բառի դէմ, որ միայն «մորեխ» նշանա-կութիւնն ունի։ Նման մի թիւրիմացու-թիւն տեղի է ունեցած հին սլաւերէնում, ուր Մտթ. գ. 4 յառաջացել է հսլ. brēdu «մորեխ» անգոյ բառը, փոխանակ ab-rèdi «կանաչեղէն» (տե՛ս Berneker 84)։ Պատահական նմանութիւն ունի յն. βροσϰος «անթև մորեխ» (Boisacq 135)։ *ԻՌ.-Ասլ. մարախ, Ախց.
